This is a video that I put together to show everyone how my son beat all the odds. Aiden Noah was born October 7th, 2006, 14 weeks early do to a rare disease that I suffered through my pregnancy called “Pre-Eclampsia.” He was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 17 weeks total. During his time there he suffered resperatory disress, a PDA heart murmor, several infections, and hernia’s in each leg which was repaired in surgery. Aiden came home on January 26th, 2007 on room air with no oxygen support what so ever. His doctors, to this day, are amazed that he is even alive! I am dedicating this video to all the NICU nurses, doctors, and staff for all their hard work, patience, and compassion as my husband and I dealt with this hard time. This is our first baby and we have been told on numerous occasions that our son is and will always be a miracle baby. Thank you so much for your support, the staff of the University of Iowa Hospitals. We are blessed with this bundle of joy because of you!

A video I made of my son Braylen with a short tribute to my first son Nicholas at the beginning. Both of my boys were born prematurely. Nicholas at 23 wks, passing away 5 days later, and Braylen at 29 wks. Both times I suffered with Pre-eclampsia and had HELLP syndrome in my first pregnancy. My son Nicholas was only 14 oz and 10 inches long. He died due to severe prematurity. His skin was so thin, all the oxygen escaped from his body, causing him to turn a brownish black color. This is a tribute to my children and all the women who have been through what I’ve been through. God Bless them all.

The compelling story of Pasang–a woman of Nepal’s north-central Himalayan region–illustrates how simple it is prevent maternal death resulting from the on-set of eclampsia and pre-eclampsia. When basic maternal health education is provided to women and their communities, and when Skilled Birth Attendants are trained to manage these complications–the lives of women and their newborns can largely be saved. The remedy is simple, and functions even in remote, low-resource settings.
