Destiny was born ten weeks early because I developed H.E.L.L.P. Syndrome, which caused my kidneys and liver to shut down. This disease stems from pre-eclampsia, and the only cure is to end the pregnancy by delivering the baby. My membranes also ruptured when I passed out the day before she was born. We were able to get 48 hours of steroids to help her, and then she had to come by c-section.
Because of HELLP, Destiny was growth restricted in utero, so she came into this world at the size of a 24-weeker. She measured 14 inches long and weighed 900 grams, or just under two pounds. She was our little micro-preemie.
Destiny stayed in the NICU at UVRMC in Provo Utah. Her stay was 45 days long, or 6 1/2 weeks. She successfully avoided any surgeries and had a fairly uneventful stay. She is, and always will be, our miracle baby.

A video I made of my son Braylen with a short tribute to my first son Nicholas at the beginning. Both of my boys were born prematurely. Nicholas at 23 wks, passing away 5 days later, and Braylen at 29 wks. Both times I suffered with Pre-eclampsia and had HELLP syndrome in my first pregnancy. My son Nicholas was only 14 oz and 10 inches long. He died due to severe prematurity. His skin was so thin, all the oxygen escaped from his body, causing him to turn a brownish black color. This is a tribute to my children and all the women who have been through what I’ve been through. God Bless them all.

In Israel, any woman in trimester 1 can get this blood test (weeks 7-13) and be evaluated for risk of pre-eclampsia. If the risk appears elevated, she returns to verify her risk, and if it is indeed elevated, DT can help the doctor determine the required level of monitoring and treatment.
Preeclampsia is a disorder that occurs only during pregnancy and affects both the mother and the unborn baby. Affecting at least 5 percent of all pregnancies, it is a rapidly progressive condition characterized by high blood pressure, swelling and protein in the urine. Sudden weight gain, headaches and changes in vision are important symptoms; however, some women with rapidly advancing disease report few symptoms.
