If you have high blood pressure/pre-eclampsia, does that mean you will need a c-section?

A friend of mine is scared to death she is going to have a c-section. She has been diagnosed with high blood pressure and she think she maybe in pre-labor. I told her it doesn't matter how she haves the baby as long as they are both safe. Are there any women who had high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia who were able to have a vaginal birth?

Not necessarily. It means that if it gets really bad she will have to deliver early. Meaning she will have to be induced.

  1. Chantal T Said,

I have high blood pressure and had a vaginal birth. but bcos of the high bp I went into preterm labor, which is common. About a month early so nothing crazy. Just tell her to rest a lot and take it easy. Towards the end I was on bed rest.

Pregnant again and my dr gave me same advice, rest and take it easy, lay down for an hour or so during day on left side.

  3. Elizabeth Said,

I have high blood pressure and I'm scheduled for an induction on Monday. So the plan is a vaginal birth. My sister had a baby 9 months ago and she had pre eclampsia and she had a vaginal birth.
