Im kind of upset today. Im scared and confused and just, I dont know. Im sorry Im not my usual perky self that I always making fun of something, but right now, Im not in a laughing mood.

At school, Nick and I were eating at lunch. I was picking at my food, mindlessly, and not paying any attention to a word he was saying.
"Kate, are you listening to me" he whined
"Mhm" yah. right
"Oh, okay Kevins pregnant"
"Yah" I sighed.
"Kate, youre not listening. Did you hear what I just said?"
"What?" I snapped out of it.
"Okay, what happened? Youve been acting spacey all day and all Smiley. Its weird and annoying. Are you on drugs" he lowered his voice so no one heard. I glared at him.
"So, then what is up with you"
I looked down and smiled. I glanced up at Joe who was on the other side of the lunchroom and then back at Nick. His eyebrows furrowed and he turned to where I looked. I heard him gasp.
"He didnt" he turned back to me
I looked down again and felt my face turn hot.
"He kissed you!?" yah, say it louder
"Well, its not like it was a out of nowhere. Its difficult to explain"
"He kissed you?" he gasped again
"Yes nick, our lips touched" I smiled.
He looked down and then blinked in astonishment.
"Well, how do you feel" he smiled at me"
"How do you think I feel. Spacey and Smiley, hello!"
"So you for surely like him" he anticipated.
"Im pretty positive" I felt my insides turn.
His smile kind of faded as I watched him in thought
"No, I dont want you getting involved with him. Hes going to break you heart like he does to every other girl, your going to get hurt"
"You cant tell me what to do!"
"Youre going to get hurt" he repeated while rolling his eyes.
"I beg to differ" I folded my arms across my chest
"Listen to me; you know about his commitment problems."
"So" I mumbled.
"So, I care about you a lot and I dont want your heart broken over someone thats not worth it"his eyes were full of concern.
"You dont give your brother enough credit"I huffed.
"Please Kate"
"Please what? What would you like me to do?"
"Dont chase him, let him chase you" Nick smiled to himself. "If he wants you that bad, he wont give up"
"Im not going to lead him on"
"Your not leading him on if you like him too, you idiot. Just play hard to get and dont always be so available. Go have a life"
"Well, excuse me"
"Kate, do you trust me?"
"Yes, of course" I groaned
"Then can you please just listen to me" he gave me his best smile
I didnt want to listen. But I trusted Nick, and he wouldnt try to hurt me. He just wanted whats best.
"Ill try but Im not guaranteeing anything"
"Just, promise you will atleast try"
"Promise" I gave in

When I got home...

I walked through my door and my mouth dropped. My mom was walking down the stairs. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw me. She was about to turn around and walk back up the stairs but I stopped her.
"Mom, Wait" I protested
She turned around slowly and looked at me. She didnt say anything; she was just like studying me, like I was some sculpture.
"Why are you hiding from me? Can we please just talk?"
She looked like she was about to cry. She cannot still be upset over my dad.
"Im, Im sorry"She whispered and left
I watched her go back up the steps and into her room. She locked her door. I just stood there at the bottom of the steps speechless. I wanted to cry. My mom hasnt come out of her room in years. I forgot what she looked like until now. Why does she hate me? Was it my fault my dad left? I felt an overwhelming power come over me and I felt faintish. I sat on the couch and grabbed my phone from my backpack. I called Nick but he didnt answer. I called Ashley and she was at her dads house. No one to talk to, just great.

So, that was my day. Ive got to say, seeing my mom took a real toll on me. I sometimes forgot she was even still in the house. What kind of parent lock themselves in there room and never comes out to check on there child? For all she knows, I could be pregnant.
