How do you know if bleeding is period or spotting in Pregnancy?

How do you know if you are bleeding because your period is coming on or if the bleeding is the sort some women lightly experience around the time their period would have come on when they are actually pregnant? I know the easy answer is take a pregnancy test - but before I can go out and get one I'd just like to know if anyone else experienced light bleeding when pregnant instead of their period. My period was due almost 1 week ago and the light bleeding has begun today. Advice welcome please - excluding people telling me to buy a home preg test - which I will do if necessary, just want more info in the spotting sometimes experienced at the beginning of pregnancy thanks!

i have had 4 children and have had spotting thoughout all the preganancies. light spotting is normal during pregnancy. keep an eye on the bleeding and if it gets heavy it will probably be your period. but you know this yourself , get a test done and then you will no instantly what it is. i had spotting with my last child b4 i found out i was pregnant. the thing is you just dont know until you have the full facts.dont want to worry you but there is also a chance you could be pregnant and the bleeding is due to a threatened miscarriage. please get a test ASAP. hope everything works out. have a good christmas.

Spotting in pregnancy tends to be much, much lighter. But it's different for everyone.

Firstly you need to confirm the pregnancy. If it comes back as positive and the spotting is continuing you will need to see a doctor and get checked out.
Being only one week late is no guarantee of pregnancy, only a minor indication.

ok firstly you didnt say how old you are and secondly you havent said whether you do want a baby but i had a bleeding when pregnant in the early stages and the doctor told me it was a threatened miscarriage, if i didnt slow down i could loose the baby. get to the doctors never mind a pregnancy test.
hope this helps good luck x

With my experience of years of fertility most likely if you have even a light flow you are probably having your period but if it just spotting I mean like the day before you start your flow, women have been known to spot because the mucus plug does not develop until the third month, you may have indeed been pregnant and be suffering a miscarriage I would let the week play itself out and then you can make a doctors appointment but they will also do a pregnancy test with urine and blood he may also do an HCG level to see if it is high enough then a second to see if it rises or falls if it goes down then your were pregnant and had a miscarriage. 99% of women do not have any bleeding with the exception of caring multiple babies but on the other hand I had a friend that had a period every month and the last thing she thought was that she was pregnant so by the time she went to the doctor she was 6 months pregnant with twins. so yes it can happen.

!st step see a doctor, 2nd step see a doctor, 3rd step don't ask on yahoo answers. You could have a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention.

Spotting just means lighter period. Its mot of the time pink or brown. And if its red it shouldn't last long.

If it starts out light and gets heavier then its your period.

I would wait a few more days to see what the bleeding is going to do before you buy a test. Unless you use the dollar tree.

You do know u can go to local women's health dept and have the test for free or low cost. So u know one way or the other.

Yes I've experienced light bleeding twice. One time I was pregnant and a few days later when I thought it stopped I hemmoraged in bed. My husband rush me to the hospital & I was taken in for D&C.

Another time I was pregnant and it was very, very light mucus smears. I was sent to bed, feet elevated so my head/heart was lower angle. It lasted on/off for about week. Then it stopped. I carried to term and had a 9 lb. 3 oz. boy so it can happen.

U need to let the ob-gyn determine if pregnant is it problem or not? If u r not pregnant & this isn't normal period cycle what is causing the break through bleeding. Really think it's probably your normal period. Stress will do really weird thinks to our minds and period cycle. Go ck things out if you are really worried.

I had light bleeding (although it was brown) at the start of all three successful pregnancies. I have had two miscarriages too and the blood was bright red.

one week late on ur period? that would be too late to be experiencing implantation bleeding, but some women do get light spotting in pregnancy, but that is normally pink or brown/old blood. If the bleeding is red blood, and enough to need a pantyliner for, then i would say its just a late period. wait til tomorrow and see if it develops. If not, test xx
