Celebrex: Basic Facts

Celebrex is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) meant for the complete treatment of arthritis, pain, menstrual cramps, and colonic polyps. Celebrex prevents the formation of the enzymes that makes prostaglandins, the primary chemical, resulting inflammation of arthritis that causes the pain, fever, swelling and tenderness. Celebrex is used to treat pain or inflammation caused arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and menstrual pain. Celebrex also reduces the number of colorectal polyps in patients who suffer from the familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an inherited tendency to develop large numbers of colorectal polyps leading acute cancer.

Celebrex: Drug Structure

Each 100 mg Celebrex capsule, with blue ink band on body contains 100 mg of celecoxib and nonmedicinal ingredients it includes are croscarmellose sodium, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, povidone and sodium lauryl sulfate.

Each 200 mg Celebrex capsule with gold ink band on cap contains 200 mg of celecoxib and nonmedicinal ingredients it includes are croscarmellose sodium, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, povidone and sodium lauryl sulfate, ferric oxide, gelatin and titanium dioxide.

Celebrex: Doses

•    A patient may take 200 mg as a single dose or as 100 mg twice daily for Osteoarthritis
•    A patient may take 200 mg as a single dose or as 100 mg twice daily for Rheumatoid arthritis
•    A patient may take 100 mg twice daily or 200 mg twice daily as directed by your doctor for Rheumatoid arthritis.

Celebrex: Side Effects

Celebrex may cause heart or circulation problems including heart attack or stroke. It also impacts adversely on the stomach or intestines resulting excessive bleeding or perforation. Gastrointestinal effects can also occur due to consumption of this medicine and persons who are facing gastric problems from long time have greater risk of these serious gastrointestinal side effects.

Celebrex: Not for Everyone

A person who is allergic to celecoxib or having past histories of allergic reaction to aspirin, sulfa drugs, or other NSAIDs must not consume Celebrex in any manner. Celebrex is also not recommended for the mothers who are breastfeeding their infants or those who are expecting new born babies.
