Bleeding gums in pregnancy?

I’ve been having bleeding on and off but lately it seems to be a lot worse. I attend dentist appointments regularly and don’t have any other problems with my teeth/gums, i know its just related to pregnancy.

My question is, is there anything to be done for this to help? I brush with a gently toothbrush and make sure i always use mouthwash after to kill any bacteria that may cause infection.
Argh baby brain, that should be gentle!

Bleeding gums are normal and you’re doing the right thing. If you’re getting too worried ask your midwife or speak to your dentist but the only thing they can do it reassure you.

Good luck and please, the remaining time will just disappear.

  1. Vr Said,

You could try switching toothbrushes, if you are using a medium or hard bristle brush, switch to a soft bristle brush. But other than that, there really isn’t a whole lot you can do. Your gums bleed more often while you’re pregnant because of the increased blood flow.

I dont think there is much you can do about it. It’s really important to take good care of your teeth while you are pregnant.

Gio back and see your dentist again and explain the problem. A friend of mine lost all of her teeth during pregnancy, they started to bleed and then her gums opened and her teeth fell out. I can’t remember what it is called but that is the reason dental treatment is free when you are pregnant.(NHS treatment)

To much sax has resulted in bleeding gums during pregnancy or Murphy as it is medically known, The only known cure is to be found in a clinic in the little heard of town called Springfield. At the Bartoliuos Clinic ask for Lisa.

    Now pucker up honey!!!

Ask your dentist to give you a prescription for Corsodyl Mouthwash.
You can buy it over the counter now too.

I had the exact same problems during my pregnancy and Corsodyl worked minor miracles so it did!

There are two types out on the market, the daily defence one has a nicer taste but the plain old original medicated ones work better! (mint or original flavours!)

    Good luck! xx

It is normal for your gums to bleed! Try to use a soft tip tooth brush!
