Hypertensive disorders remain one the major causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and death. It is also a leading cause of preterm birth now known to be a risk factor in remote cardiovascular disease. Despite this the hypertensive disorders remain marginally studied and management is often controversial. Chesley’s Hypertensive Disorders in Pregnancy, remains one of the beacons to guide this field, recognized for its uniqueness and utility. The Third Edition continues this tradition, focusing on prediction, prevention, and management for clinicians, and is an essential reference text for clinical and basic investigators alike. Differing from other texts devoted to preeclampsia, it covers the whole gamut of high blood pressure, and not just preeclampsia.
NEW TO THE THIRD EDITION:
* New chapters focusing on recent discoveries in angiogenesis, auto-antibodies and other recent immunological findings, imaging in eclampsa, animal models - where considerable progress has emerged since the previous edition
* Extensive updates to chapters on epidemiology, etiological considerations, pathophysiology, prediction, prevention, and management
* Systematic reviews and metanalysis of trials regarding prediction and antihypertensive treatment
* Discussions on the emerging roles of metabolic syndrome and obesity and the increasing incidence of preeclampsia

______________
Im kind of upset today. Im scared and confused and just, I dont know. Im sorry Im not my usual perky self that I always making fun of something, but right now, Im not in a laughing mood.
****
At school, Nick and I were eating at lunch. I was picking at my food, mindlessly, and not paying any attention to a word he was saying.
"Kate, are you listening to me" he whined
"Mhm" yah. right
"Oh, okay Kevins pregnant"
"Yah" I sighed.
"Kate, youre not listening. Did you hear what I just said?"
"What?" I snapped out of it.
"Okay, what happened? Youve been acting spacey all day and all Smiley. Its weird and annoying. Are you on drugs" he lowered his voice so no one heard. I glared at him.
"So, then what is up with you"
I looked down and smiled. I glanced up at Joe who was on the other side of the lunchroom and then back at Nick. His eyebrows furrowed and he turned to where I looked. I heard him gasp.
"He didnt" he turned back to me
I looked down again and felt my face turn hot.
"He kissed you!?" yah, say it louder
"Well, its not like it was a out of nowhere. Its difficult to explain"
"He kissed you?" he gasped again
"Yes nick, our lips touched" I smiled.
He looked down and then blinked in astonishment.
"Well, how do you feel" he smiled at me"
"How do you think I feel. Spacey and Smiley, hello!"
"So you for surely like him" he anticipated.
"Im pretty positive" I felt my insides turn.
His smile kind of faded as I watched him in thought
"No, I dont want you getting involved with him. Hes going to break you heart like he does to every other girl, your going to get hurt"
"You cant tell me what to do!"
"Youre going to get hurt" he repeated while rolling his eyes.
"I beg to differ" I folded my arms across my chest
"Listen to me; you know about his commitment problems."
"So" I mumbled.
"So, I care about you a lot and I dont want your heart broken over someone thats not worth it"his eyes were full of concern.
"You dont give your brother enough credit"I huffed.
"Please Kate"
"Please what? What would you like me to do?"
"Dont chase him, let him chase you" Nick smiled to himself. "If he wants you that bad, he wont give up"
"Im not going to lead him on"
"Your not leading him on if you like him too, you idiot. Just play hard to get and dont always be so available. Go have a life"
"Well, excuse me"
"Kate, do you trust me?"
"Yes, of course" I groaned
"Then can you please just listen to me" he gave me his best smile
I didnt want to listen. But I trusted Nick, and he wouldnt try to hurt me. He just wanted whats best.
"Ill try but Im not guaranteeing anything"
"Just, promise you will atleast try"
"Promise" I gave in
When I got home...
I walked through my door and my mouth dropped. My mom was walking down the stairs. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw me. She was about to turn around and walk back up the stairs but I stopped her.
"Mom, Wait" I protested
She turned around slowly and looked at me. She didnt say anything; she was just like studying me, like I was some sculpture.
"Why are you hiding from me? Can we please just talk?"
She looked like she was about to cry. She cannot still be upset over my dad.
"Im, Im sorry"She whispered and left
I watched her go back up the steps and into her room. She locked her door. I just stood there at the bottom of the steps speechless. I wanted to cry. My mom hasnt come out of her room in years. I forgot what she looked like until now. Why does she hate me? Was it my fault my dad left? I felt an overwhelming power come over me and I felt faintish. I sat on the couch and grabbed my phone from my backpack. I called Nick but he didnt answer. I called Ashley and she was at her dads house. No one to talk to, just great.
****
So, that was my day. Ive got to say, seeing my mom took a real toll on me. I sometimes forgot she was even still in the house. What kind of parent lock themselves in there room and never comes out to check on there child? For all she knows, I could be pregnant.

Any parent, especially the would-be mother should be very conscious of baby development. Every week, new changes are happening, which could be crucial to his growth while he or she is still inside the motherâs tummy. Moreover, getting exact week by week information allows mothers to properly take care not only of themselves but, most of all, of their baby. They can prevent future problems such as early miscarriage, spotting, or gestational diabetes.
When it comes to baby development, there are three trimesters that make up one pregnancy cycle. It means that a woman would normally carry her unborn baby for nine months. During these times, mothers should coordinate with her doctor in order to obtain week by week information about her baby.
The first trimester is considered to be the most dangerous and crucial stages in baby development. After all, itâs at this phase that the baby is slowly being developed and is formed. First week marks the time when the couple, especially the woman, is more than ready to conceive. Fertilization, or the meeting of the egg and the sperm cell, would occur on the second week, while on the third week, the zygote moves into the uterus of the mother, where it will stay until it comes to full term.
By weeks five until nine, rapid physical transformations happen, including the babyâs first heartbeat, formation of toes and hands, attachment of the umbilical cord to the motherâs womb, and the development of the babyâs sex. Your week by week information therefore should include the importance of vitamins and prenatal checkups, as well as the reasons why you need to avoid addictive substances, such as cigarettes and alcohol.
During second trimester, baby development is more apparent. Majority of its organs are already fully developed, and the baby is already gaining weight and size. This is also a great time for mothers, since they will be out of the so-called danger zone, and if theyâre suffering from morning sickness, this will suddenly disappear. A great part of the babyâs nourishment now comes from the woman, particularly when the umbilical cord starts to thicken.
Thus, when youâre gathering week by week information from your doctor, you must learn how to ask which types of food would be extremely helpful for the growth of your baby and which ones you should avoid. You also need to determine your current blood pressure, the size of your uterus, and your babyâs heartbeat. You can also test yourself if youâre prone to developing preeclampsia or gestational diabetes during your pregnancy through a urine test.
The third trimester means that youâre already nearing the end of the journey. Commonly, when you speak of a full-term pregnancy, it will last for 40 weeks, but you can deliver your baby from your thirty-eighth to forty-second week. The baby development is complete, and the child is ready to be born. You can also expect to feel a lot of baby movements inside.
If thereâs one thing you have to know about the week by week information, itâs the fact that the baby must be born with his or her head positioned near the uterus or the cervix. This is to prevent the umbilical cord from being tied around his neck and make him or her vulnerable to choking. Weekly or even daily checkups become necessary therefore during your third trimester.

Any woman trying to get pregnant just cannot bear to wait patiently to find out if she has achieved her objective. She wants to find out sooner than later if she is pregnant. Your body is an excellent indicator of early pregnancy symptoms. It is very important to monitor your body very carefully and be alert to even the minutest of the changes within. Though no two pregnancies are the same, some women may experience early pregnancy symptoms within just a few days of conception, while others may have no body changes till about a few weeks of conception.

Constipation: Lack of proper diet and slow metabolism during pregnancy results in frequent constipation.
Frequent urination: This happens as early as first week of pregnancy due to the pressure of growing uterus on the urinary bladder.
Tiredness: Exhaustion and tiredness are the common symptoms of pregnancy in first trimester.
Enlarged nipples and tender breasts: As the body prepares itself for breastfeeding, the nipples enlarge and breasts become swollen, tender and sore to touch during early pregnancy.
Spotting: Some women may experience some light bleeding or spotting 8-10 days after ovulation, coinciding with the date of next due period.
Missed period: This is the clinical, classic early pregnancy symptom. Some women may experience cramping and low back pain as just before the arrival of periods feeling without any signs of bleeding.
Irritability: Nausea, tiredness, cramps, backache, enhanced smells and fluctuating hormones make many pregnant women extremely irritable.
Change in complexion: The raging hormones cause skin spotting, acne or other complexion changes in the first trimester of the pregnancy.
