what is the success rate of ecotrin in preventing preeclampsia?

i am hypertensive and have had preeclampsia before. now i am pregnant and my doctor put me on ecotrin. Has anyone out there gone through this.? Plesae tell me your experiences. I really need some encouragement.

I had preeclampsia with all 3 of my pregnancy's. With my second I was told take a a baby aspirin a day which is basically what your taking, to help thin my blood but i was also put on a blood pressure medication to help control the high blood pressure. i think it was called metheldoppa but it is a low dose and one of the only safe blood pressure meds a pregnant woman can take, talk to your obgyn about it if your blood pressure begins to rise. I started taking the meds at 17 weeks of pregnancy. the blood pressure med was started at 500mg a day and at 22 weeks was bumped to 1000mg a day. I really don't think I would be alive today without the blood pressure med, i was placed in the hospital on bed rest and delivered my son the day i turned 35 weeks by emergency c-section. My blood pressure had become to high and wouldn't come down. Due to the preeclampsia my son was very small and the doctors said he looked more like a 32week gestation baby than a 35 week one. I would say to watch your diet. try to not eat salty foods, stay away from fast food. Salt can make you bloat. Drink plenty of fluids, juice and water. Stay away from soda's because of the salt. try not to get stressed out. exercise and lots of rest, anytime your legs swell prop them up. I did these thing with my 3rd pregnancy and was able to go full term for the first time and the preeclampsia hit me the last 3 weeks of pregnancy instead early on like my first two pregnancy's having to deliver at 35 weeks. Having preeclampsia 3 times I know the swelling is much worse and doesn't come down with proping your legs up but it should still be done. Stress can and will raise your blood pressure. Good luck to you and your baby and take care.

what are the examples of drugs use to treat hypertension in pregnancy?

I think treatment would depend upon if it was chronic hypertension (the mom always has high blood pressure), or pregnancy-induced hypertension, or hypertension as a symptom of pre-eclampsia.

Methyldopa is often used during pregnancy for controlling hypertension.

Drugs that are usually contra-indicated in pregnancy: ACE inhibitors, angiotensin-receptor blockers, and renin inhibitors (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pregnancy/PR00125).

I am 11 weeks pregnant and having difficulty swallowing. No other cold/flu symptoms present.?

I've had a very very slightly sore throat for a few days, but I thought it was from sleeping with my mouth open with the air conditioning on. This afternoon while at work my throat just closed up, making it very painful to swallow. I didn't eat anything weird, and I don't have any food alergies that I know of. No congestion, no cough. I was felt tired and dizzy and sweaty in my air conditioned office, so I left early. Without thinking to check my temperature I already took some tylenol to bring the swelling down. Do I need to go see a doctor? Could whatever this is be dangerous to the baby? Water is even extremely painful, and I don't want to get dehydrated. Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks!

Yes I'd ask a doctor you could've come across mold or some kind of other bacteria in the air I remember my throat feeling weird at the beginning of pregnancy but more like w/e I ate never went all the way down no matter what I drank after so this is not what youare describing I don't know if it can harm the baby but I'd have it checked out just in case!! btw congrats

Anybody have excruciating back pain or cramps during early pregnancy?

I've read a lot about mild cramping and lower back pain during pregnancy, but has anyone else had lying on the bathroom floor crying, screaming obscenities at the top of your lungs back pain? I'm probably only 4 wks along, no spotting or bleeding or anything. It comes & goes, I'm doing pretty good most of the time but every few hours it'll hit and I'm curled up into a little ball for 10-15 minutes till it subsides. I have an appt Tues with a midwife; I called her a few days ago and she talked a bit about miscarriage but never really said that's what's going on, just wanted me to be aware that 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. She's pretty anti-med and discouraged Tylenol, though I have cheated and taken it when the pain gets really bad (doesn't seem to help though). Been using ice packs on my back (hope that's ok?), heating pad seemed to make it worse. Just made my poor hubby go get stool softener, though I don't think that's the problem either. Any advice, is this normal?

i had really really bad back pain in early pregnancy… it was sooo bad that (before we suspected pregnancy) everyone thought i might have had a pinched nerve or something… it did get better as time went on….. congrats … good luck… and i hope you feel better soon….

*pretty soon you're back pain will come from being bent over the toilet all day… LoL…..

Is bleeding during late pregnancy normal?

I am currently 35 weeks pregnant have a check up this thursday - but was wondering - considerable pain in lower pelvic area - a tonne of downward pressure - these both come and go but is accompanied with bleeding - not heavy but enough to make me concerned. The baby is still very high up - he hasn't dropped yet, and active - pregnancy normal other than above. Please help first pregnancy. Thanks ahead of time.
I will call my dr asap and let him know what is going on. Thank you.

Definitely call your doctor, that is what they are there for. Even if you still feel your baby moving and all seems well, you can never be too sure.
